βοΈ Since 202425 years of ground-level transformation through housing, education, elder care, healthcare and social empowerment in Aryanad, Kerala.
The Housing Project is the flagship activity of Jeevan Jyothy Charitable Trust. On 8th September 2005, the first 12 houses were built and handed over to destitute families. The village was blessed by His Excellency Bishop Soosai Packiam, Latin Diocese of Trivandrum, and christened "Maria Nagar" β a village born from the spirit of charity.
On September 8, 2006, six more houses were blessed by Bishop Vincent Samuel of the Neyyatinkara Diocese. Between 2011 and 2015, eight more houses were built. Many families in the locality also received partial or complete housing assistance, enabling them to live with dignity.
As there were no English medium schools in Aryanad, Maria Rani School was started on 2nd June 2003 by the Oblate Sisters of St. Antony Padua β later becoming Villa Nazareth CBSE School. From 2003, all poor students were given education help. Sponsors from Germany and Italy have been funding their education.
Between 2010 and 2018, up to 500 students were aided annually. Post COVID-19, around 200 students continue to receive regular help. From 2024, students at Silver Jubilee Law College are also supported. βΉ30 Lakhs is given every year for education. Over 25 years, crores of rupees have been spent on the education of poor children.
To help children with English education, the Jeevan Jyothy Centre for Excellence was blessed on 8th October 2006 by the Most Rev. Dr. Soosai Packiam, Archbishop of Trivandrum.
Students of Villa Nazareth School were helped by the Sisters to do their homework at this Centre β students lived in this boarding Monday to Friday. The building was also used for camps and seminars to promote education, culture and social commitments. Students helped by the Trust have completed their studies and are now working and supporting their poor families β a true testament to this Centre's transformative work.
Asha Sadan Home for Aged and Destitute was blessed on 8th September 2007 by His Excellency Dr. Vincent Samuel, Bishop of Neyyatinkara Diocese, and entrusted to the Adoration Sisters of St. Jerome. The home has capacity for thirty inmates.
For the first ten years, both men and women β 10 poor men and 20 poor women β were given shelter. Later, as government regulations did not allow both under the same building, men's admission was stopped. During and after COVID-19, many inmates passed away. At present, 10 women reside here. The rent from Silver Jubilee Law College (βΉ25,000/month) funds this home.
From 2002 till 2022, Jeevan Jyothy Charitable Trust generously supported the spiritual and academic formation of seminarians. The Trust helped 70 seminarians of the Diocese of Neyyatinkara and 11 seminarians of the Archdiocese of Trivandrum β a total of 81 seminarians.
An approximate amount of One Crore and Thirty Thousand Rupees (βΉ1,30,00,000) was spent on this project over 20 years β investing in the future shepherds of God's people. This contribution ensured that many devoted young men from modest backgrounds could complete their priestly formation without financial anxiety.
Medical assistance has been a consistent thread through Jeevan Jyothy's 25 years of service. The Trust has extended significant financial help for major medical procedures including kidney transplantation, dialysis and heart operations β enabling life-saving treatment for those who could not otherwise afford it.
Looking ahead, the 16,000 sq.ft building β currently hosting Silver Jubilee Law College β has the potential to be converted into a hospital, addressing the critical need for a major medical facility in Aryanad, where no big hospital currently exists.
In 2023, a building of 16,000 sq.ft β near Mount Carmel Forane Church, Aryanad β was availed for the Diocese of Neyyatinkara at a minimum rent of just βΉ5,000 per month. The college was officially started in October 2024, and the rent was later revised to βΉ25,000 per month.
This rental income is channelled entirely towards the care of inmates of Asha Sadan Home β a beautiful cycle where education sustains elder care. From 2024, students of this college also receive academic support from the Trust. Managed by Very Rev. Msgr. Rufus Pius Lean.
The Boys Home started at Thavanapara in 1999 and moved to Aryanad in 2003. A property of 1 acre 62 cents was given to the Piarist Fathers in 2002 to build and run the home for students of 8th, 9th and 10th standard.
The home continued until 2013 when the Piarist Fathers wanted to start a school. The Trust gave 5 acres and 25 cents of land to the Piarist Fathers for the school, in exchange for the Boys Home land (1.62 acres). Students from the Boys Home are today well placed in society, supporting their poor families β a true success story of social investment.
Nedumangad Taluk is marked as a backward taluk in education, health and social life in Kerala. From 2014, students from 4th Standard were given special education β improving Malayalam, English, Hindi and Mathematics.
Monthly weekend training for English β covering Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking β was held at the Vidhya Jyothy building (formerly St. Joseph's Hostel). During COVID-19, the building was offered free of cost to the Panchayat for caring for COVID-affected patients β an act of selfless community service.
A building of 16,000 sq.ft was purchased from the Piarist Fathers β close to Mount Carmel Forane Church, Aryanad β in exchange for 5 acres and 25 cents of land. A Girls Hostel was started in this building for pharmacy students.
As student numbers increased, hostel operations were shifted to the Jeevan Jyothy Centre for Excellence building. The original building later became the premises for Silver Jubilee Law College β demonstrating the Trust's ability to repurpose assets to serve evolving community needs.

The name "Jeevan Jyothy" means "Light of Life" β a name that beautifully captures the Trust's mission of bringing hope and dignity to the lives of the poor and marginalised.
Rooted in Christian charity and driven by deep compassion, the Trust was established to serve the most vulnerable β the destitute, the homeless, the elderly, the sick, and children without access to quality education. From its very first year, the Trust began reaching out to families in need, building homes, funding education and supporting the formation of future priests.
Over 25 glorious years, Jeevan Jyothy has built 26+ homes in Maria Nagar, funded the education of 500+ students, supported 81 seminarians with βΉ1.3 Crore, sheltered 30+ elderly persons in Asha Sadan, provided life-saving medical aid, and established the Silver Jubilee Law College for the Diocese of Neyyatinkara.
